"The Muppet Show" Heading to Disney+

Well this is a step in the right direction! Finally, the original Muppet Show is heading to Disney+ in February.

In case you've been living in a cave for the past 40 years, the original “Muppet Show” is a 30min variety show featuring Kermit 'The Frog' as the 'showrunner' and 'host' as well as Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear, Rawlf, Swedish Chef, my favorite hecklers Statler and Waldorf and a slew of other beloved Muppets.

The series originally aired from 1976 to 1981 on CBS, and featured guest stars included Alice Cooper, Steve Martin, Diana Ross, Elton John, Liza Minnelli, Vincent Price, Johnny Cash, Bernadette Peters, Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Gladys Knight and Mark Hamill (along with some of the other cast from Star Wars. In addition to the show’s first three seasons, seasons 4 and 5 will also be available to stream for the first time ever.

My hope is that this is just the beginning, and they will soon release the ORIGINAL Muppet Babies on Disney+ as well. I know, there is the re-boot of Muppet Babies (which is a good show in it's own right) but I want the original! Rumors have circulated for years, that the original Muppet Babies was never released on digital platforms due to the many rights issues involving music clearances as the original Muppet Babies features lots of footage from classic movies, which could make streaming rights a bit of a legal issue. Although, now that Disney also owns Lucas Films, most of those should be resolved.

Either way, look for the original Muppet Show to hit Disney+ on February 19th! Hopefully, there is even more Muppet related programming (including Muppets Tonight) added in the near future as well.
